Celebrating Excellence and Community: CHMS at the 25th Hellenic Professionals’ Gala

On February 28, 2026, the Canadian Hellenic Medical Society (CHMS) proudly participated in the 25th Hellenic Professionals’ Gala, held at The Ritz-Carlton in Toronto. This milestone event brought together over 350 members of the Hellenic professional community for an unforgettable evening of celebration, connection, and philanthropy.

Co-organized by the Canadian Hellenic Medical Society (CHMS), the Asclepius Dental Society, and the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association (HCLA), the Gala continues to serve a vital purpose: raising funds to support scholarship programs that empower the next generation of Hellenic professionals across medicine, dentistry, and law.

The evening was made possible with the support of Presenting Sponsor Saporito Foods, whose continued commitment to the community played an important role in the success of this landmark event.

An Evening Rooted in Tradition and Excellence

The evening began with a vibrant cocktail reception, where guests enjoyed classic Greek hors d’oeuvres—including tiropita and spanakopita—expertly prepared by Tzatziki. Attendees gathered along the red carpet for photos before transitioning into the elegant dining hall for the formal program.

The Gala was co-emceed by HCLA Vice President James Trougakos and CHMS Vice President Dr. David Rossolatos, whose energy and presence set the tone for a night that balanced sophistication with heartfelt community spirit.

Honouring the Next Generation of Physicians

A central highlight of the evening for CHMS was the presentation of its annual scholarships, recognizing outstanding students of Hellenic heritage pursuing careers in medicine.

Awards were presented by CHMS President Dr. Vasilia Vastis and Vice President Dr. David Rossolatos:

  • Dr. Dimitrios Oreopoulos Memorial Scholarship – awarded to Asimina Jordanides

  • Dr. Psarakis Scholarship – awarded to Falia Pantieras

The Dr. Dimitrios Oreopoulos Memorial Scholarship was co-presented by Dr. George Oreopoulos, son of CHMS’s late founder, adding a deeply meaningful connection to the Society’s origins and enduring mission.

A Surprise Announcement: Investing in Future Leaders

In a particularly meaningful moment, following the scholarship presentations, Dr. David Rossolatos shared a special announcement that underscored the spirit of generosity within the community.

John Konstantinidis, Owner of Tzatziki, committed a donation to fund the travel costs for two Canadian Hellenic medical students to attend the Hippocratic Oath ceremony in Kos, Greece, alongside the CHMS delegation as part of the annual Hippocratic Week celebrations.

This initiative represents a unique opportunity for students to connect with the roots of medicine in Greece while strengthening their ties to the global Hellenic medical community.

Record Attendance and Meaningful Impact

This year’s Gala marked a new milestone, with over 350 attendees, making it the most well-attended event in its 25-year history. Notably, approximately half of all attendees were physicians or medical professionals—highlighting the growing engagement and visibility of CHMS within the broader Hellenic professional community.

Importantly, more than $20,000 was raised during this year’s event in support of scholarship initiatives. Through these efforts, CHMS is able to support 5–8 students annually, directly contributing to the development of future leaders in medicine.

CHMS was proudly represented by members of its Board of Directors and volunteer committees, reflecting the strength and dedication of the organization’s leadership and volunteers.

A Celebration of Hellenic Spirit

Following the formal program, the evening transitioned into a lively celebration of Hellenic culture. Dr. David Rossolatos led the first dance of the night with a spirited syrtaki, joined by members of the Gala’s organizing committee and soon the entire room.

Dancing continued well past midnight, with memorable displays of zeibekiko adding authenticity and energy to the celebration.

Guests were also treated to late-night offerings from Tzatziki, including loukoumades, Greek yogurt, and gyro pitas—a fitting finale reminiscent of a traditional Greek panigiri (festival celebration).

Looking Ahead

The 25th Hellenic Professionals’ Gala was more than a celebration—it was a testament to the strength, unity, and generosity of the Hellenic diaspora in Canada.

“Events like the Gala highlight the strength of our community and help inspire the next generation of Hellenic professionals.”
— Dr. David Rossolatos, Vice President, CHMS

This work reflects CHMS’s strategic commitment to Education & CME Excellence and the development of future leaders within the Hellenic medical diaspora.
