Medical Student at University of Ottawa

My name is Aliki Karanikas and I am a second year medical student at the University of Ottawa. I completed my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, obtaining a Bachelor of Health Sciences with a specialization in Global and Population Health. Regarding extracurriculars, I was the VP Social for our Aesculapian Society this year, planning events such as Orientation Week and the Mont Tremblant ski trip. Next year, I have the privilege of being the Aesculapian Society President!

My Hellenic background extends across the country! My father was born and raised in Larissa, while my maternal grandfather is from Nafpaktos and my maternal grandmother is from Chios. I am fortunate to have visited all of these wonderful locations, which has connected me with my relatives and roots! Growing up Greek Canadian, celebrating my heritage has always been a priority. I attended Greek School until Grade 12, and I also participated in Greek Dancing classes. At Queen’s, I was Co-President of the Hellenic Students’ Association and here in Ottawa, I am a member of the Ottawa Hellenic Young Adults Group.

Outside of school, I have a few hobbies! I love swimming, running, and doing yoga – recently, I completed my first half marathon. I am also a bookworm! Some of my favourite reads this year were Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors and The Women by Kristin Hannah.
