Family Physician and Low Risk Obstetrics
University of Toronto, Department of Family and Community Medicine
My name is Joanna Lioutas and I am a Family Physician practicing in Toronto, with Clinical Academic Appointment at the University of Toronto in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. I have additional training in Low-Risk Obstetrics and manage labour and perform deliveries at North York General Hospital and Michael Garron Hospital.
My medical degree was obtained at the University of Edinburgh, followed by my Family Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan, and my Low-Risk Obstetrics fellowship at the University of Toronto.
I am born and raised in Toronto, and I am very proud of my Hellenic roots – my father’s family is from Epirus and my mother’s family is from the Peloponnese. We visit Greece often allowing me to stay connected with our extended family and explore new areas of the country. My family has been extremely supportive of me as I work to achieve my goals, and I would not be where I am today without them.
When I am not working, I can be found spending time with family and friends! I enjoy reading, watching tv/movies, and travelling to new places. I am a member of Voices Rock, a choir composed of all female physicians, and it has been so enjoyable for me to engage in something I love doing with my peers in a non-work related environment.
I am very excited about the prospect of joining the Board of the Canadian Hellenic Medical Society, and becoming more involved with the Greek medical community in Canada.
