$2,000
Dr. Dimitrios Oreopoulos Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to award excellence in academic performance amongst Canadian medical students of Greek heritage attending Ontario medical schools.

The late Dr. Oreopoulos is known internationally as one of the fathers of peritoneal dialysis, a lifesaving treatment for millions of patients around the world. But to us, the Greek community of Toronto, he was known as a caring and compassionate physician, loving husband and father of 4, and a great humanitarian. He founded the Humane Medicine Journal and studied and wrote about the ethical care of patients. His humanitarian endeavours continued in our community as a former President of the Hellenic Home for the Aged, the Greek Orthodox Education in Ontario, and the Athens Villa, he was also the founder of our society, and acted as our president for several years. He carried out all of his work with great humility, faith in God and a strong belief in the intrinsic worth of all human beings.
The annual Hellenic Professionals’ Gala is the main event organized by the Canadian Hellenic Medical Society, with the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association and the Asclepius Dental Society where our scholarships are awarded.
The Dr. Oreopoulos Memorial Scholarship accepts donations from individuals, committee members, Associations, and/ or corporate sponsors.
